Our method of top dressing, or sanding, is the same as that used on golf course putting greens to produce a smooth surface and better soil conditions. By applying sand to any clay-based soil, the sand will improve drainage and stimulate growth of Bermuda and Zoysia. It will also improve the color and growth of these turf grasses.

THE PROCEDURE FOR TOP-DRESSING IS AS FOLLOWS:

  1. The turf must be scalped before the top dressing is applied. Scalping is taking the turf to the lowest possible level as well as removing the clippings. This procedure can be done by the customer or by Blue ribbon Lawn and Landscape.
  2. Sand is applied at a 1/4 inch thickness. After the sand is applied, the turf is raked with a dragnet (a heavy metal mat) to pull the sand from any high areas and spread it into the low areas.
  3. Sand should not exceed 2 inches in depth. Any very low areas will be hand spread up to 2 inches in depth. More sand may be applied after 30 days.
  4. Our top dressing machine can only be used on grades of no more than 33 degrees. Grades more than 33 degrees must be done by hand and will be priced separately.
  5. The optimal season for top dressing is anytime after the last frost and then during the spring and summer.

HOW TO CALCULATE THE COST OF SANDING YOUR LAWN

It requires a minimum of 1 ton of sand for each 1,000 square feet of lawn. For example: If your lawn measures 8,000 square feet, it would require 8 tons of sand at $85.00 per ton. Total cost would be $680.00. Our prices include delivery of sand, spreading of sand, hand filling of low areas, sand removal from driveways and walkways and hand raking of areas not reached by the dragnet.
